Letter from the President

I love the outdoors. I love the smell of pine on a mountain breeze or the way the wind blows before a summer thunderstorm. I love to stand on a mountain top and look for a hundred miles and see nothing but blue sky, clouds, and beautiful mountain peaks.

Being in the outdoors helps me to feel at peace. I need the trail time to help me heal from all the hurt that comes with modern society. That's what the Great Western Trail is to meIt is a way to enjoy life and the beauty of the world we live in.

Let me extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped with the Great Western Trail so far. Thanks to the Boy Scouts, Forest Service Officials, and Volunteers, who have worked on the trail and helped with the unending administration tasks.

I especially want to thank those individuals and businesses, who have sent money to help pay for maps, brochures, trail equipment, and other necessities. Thanks to all of you! Now let's get out and use the trail!
